A South African talent with international appeal
South African born Elan Lea’s recently released his second album, My Only Excuse, has had positive responses from even the most hard to please in the music industry.
Inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Frank Sinatra, Elan’s love for music allowed him to set up his own record label- Mutha Deer- and continue on
his path of passion till it dropped him on the doorstep of Full Phatt’s studio in London. It is here that Elan found the synergy that is portrayed in his latest album.
Growing up in Johannesburg, Elan had a strong connection to music through his father, who is a musician himself. His dad plays everything from the piano, to the guitar
and the accordion and harmonica. Elan recalls sitting on the speakers at his father’s gigs. Encouraged by his mother to follow his love for music, Elan, at the age of
16 touched his grandparent’s piano and could not be torn away
Elan describes his sound as ‘pop but not the bubblegum kind’. His debut international album has been recorded with UK writer/producers Full Phatt (Full Phatt has worked
with the likes of Christina Milian Chris Brown, Lemar and Anastacia). Recorded in London, Cape Town and Johannesburg, the album includes songs written in collaboration
with Nathan Thomas and Adam Argyle as well as the stunning "I Don't Know About That" penned by Diane Warren. The second song on the album, My Only Excuse, is currently
play listed on radio stations across South Africa, with the music video receiving extensive play across all channels as well.
